C&T 2011 delegates raised $522 towards the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal

The raffle at the closing ceremony of the Communities and Technologies C&T 2011 conference raised a total of $522 which we donated to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. We thank all delegates for their participation and donation, and we also especially thank our book sponsors – MIT Press, John Wiley, IGI, and Rosenfeld – for agreeing to give away their display books as part of our raffle.

9th International Conference on Computer Supported Collaborative Learning – CSCL 2011, Hong Kong

In addition to the 5th International Conference on Communities & Technologies 2011, there is now another reason to include the Asia-Pacific region in your travel plans for 2011, as the 9th International Conference on Computer Supported Collaborative Learning will be in Hong Kong 4-8 July 2011.

CSCL 2011 is the ninth international CSCL conference and will be held in Hong Kong on July 4-8, 2011. The conference is co-organised by the International Society of the Learning Sciences (ISLS) and Centre for Information Technology in Education of The University of Hong Kong.

CSCL 2011 is a major international event that gathers together people involved in all aspects of the field of technology-based collaborative learning, including research, education, training and technology. It focuses on issues related to formal and informal learning through collaboration, as the CSCL community is interested not only in tools, but also in identifying the actual educational and professional practices that are associated with their appropriate usages.

It includes a lively mix of keynotes, submitted paper sessions, submitted and invited symposia, workshops, panels, educational showcases, interactive events, posters sessions, demos and exhibitions, covering timely and important issues of interest to the community and reporting recent research findings.

CSCL 2011 invites participation from experienced as well as early career researchers, designers, educators, industrial trainers from various disciplines including education, cognitive, social and educational psychology, didactics, subject matter specialities, computer science, linguistics and semiotics, speech communication, anthropology, sociology, design, etc.

World Planning Schools Congress 2011

In addition to the 5th International Conference on Communities & Technologies 2011, there is now another reason to include Australia in your travel plans for 2011, as the 2011 World Planning Schools Congress will be in Perth, WA, 4-8 July 2011. WPSC 2011 is the third WPSC event to be held in a decade, and will build on the success of the 2001 and 2006 Congresses in Shanghai and Mexico City.

An initiative of the Global Planning Education Association Network (GPEAN), the WPSC has established itself as the leading international congress for urban planning educators and university sector researchers, bringing together the finest scholars from nine planning schools regions.

15th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) 2011, Brisbane

In addition to the 5th International Conference on Communities & Technologies 2011, there is now another reason to include Australia in your travel plans for 2011, as the 15th Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems (PACIS) will be in Brisbane 7-11 July 2011. PACIS 2011, the AIS Region 3 conference, will run for three days preceded by a doctoral consortium and relevant meetings.

The main conference is being hosted by the Information Systems Discipline of the Faculty of Science and Technology at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and the Doctoral Consortium by University of Queensland (UQ). QUT is located in the Central Business District of Brisbane, with UQ 8 kilometres upriver by ferry. Brisbane is the fastest growing city in Australia and one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the western world. With 1.7 million people, Brisbane offers the infrastructure and facilities of a global metropolitan hub. One hour from the Gold Coast and just south of the Barrier Reef, Brisbane is within easy reach of rain forest, pristine beaches and much more.

The conference theme: is “Quality Research in Pacific Asia”, emphasizing the growing importance of the region as a source of internationally recognised top-tier research in Information Systems, and the growing recognition of value from IS contributions and developments beyond the discipline.
